Information We Collect

GAY-i collects the following information to provide and improve our service:

Account information: Email address, display name, and optional profile details (pronouns, topics to avoid, communication preferences) you provide during sign-up and onboarding.
Device identifiers: A unique device ID stored locally on your device to maintain your session.
Chat messages: Messages you send to our AI, including text conversations.
Preferences: Your energy preference, situation focus areas, and personality survey responses.
Usage data: Daily and lifetime chat counts, session activity, and feature usage to manage your subscription limits.
Analytics events: Anonymized interaction data such as paywall views, plan selections, and feature engagement to improve the app experience.
Saved content: Replies and cards you choose to save to your Library.
Diagnostic data: If a crash or unhandled error occurs in the app, we may collect a stack trace, the browser/OS type, and the URL where the error happened. We do not include the contents of your chat messages in crash reports.

How We Use Your Information

Provide personalized AI responses tailored to your selected vibe and preferences.
Manage your subscription tier and enforce daily usage limits (e.g., 20/50/100 chats per day depending on your plan).
Generate Advice Cards and saved content for your Library.
Detect and respond to mental health concerns with appropriate crisis resources.
Prevent abuse through rate limiting and spam detection.
Improve our service through aggregated, anonymized analytics and crash reports.

We do not sell your personal data to third parties.

Third Parties That Receive Your Data

To run the service we share the minimum data necessary with the providers listed below. Each provider operates under its own privacy policy, linked here.

We may add or change service providers as the product evolves. We will update this list and the "Last updated" date above when we do.

Donation Program

GAY-i donates 10% of subscription revenue to organizations supporting the LGBTQ+ community, including crisis intervention and suicide prevention. If you opt into the Impact Boost add-on ($1.00/month), 100% of that additional amount is donated. Your personal information is not shared with donation recipients.

Data Retention

Chat history is retained for up to 30 days (last 100 messages) to enable conversation continuity and the History feature. Saved Library items are retained until you delete them. Account and preference data is retained while your account is active.

Account Deletion

You can delete your account and all associated data at any time directly from the app: open Settings → Account → Delete Account. Deleting your account immediately and permanently removes:

Your profile, email, password, and onboarding preferences
All chat messages and conversation history
Your saved Library items
Your usage and analytics records associated with your account

If you have an active web (Stripe) subscription, GAY-i will also send a cancellation request to Stripe so the subscription does not renew. iOS (Apple) and Android (Google Play) subscriptions are managed by Apple and Google and are not cancelled automatically by deleting your account — you must cancel them yourself in your device's subscription settings before you delete the account, or you will continue to be charged. Aggregated, fully anonymized statistics may be retained for billing reconciliation and abuse prevention. If you need help, contact us at hello@gay-i.co.

Data Security

We use industry-standard security measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS), secure database storage, password hashing (bcrypt), and access controls. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.

Children's Privacy

GAY-i is not intended for users under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes through the app or by updating the "Last updated" date above.
